About the course

This one-year master’s degree (180 points) provides a transformative business education that will take your career to new heights.
The Waikato MBM will give you an in-depth understanding of the fast-paced global business environment. It will also prepare you to take on a wide range of management and leadership roles in any industry.
This taught master’s programme is designed for graduates of any bachelor’s degree – from arts and engineering to teaching and social sciences – who wish to expand their career prospects and increase their earning potential. Previous business experience is not required.

Over 12 months (or longer if you study part-time), you’ll hone your skills in all aspects of business and management: planning for strategic growth, marketing, digital business, economics, financial analysis, managing people in organisations, global business, supply chain management, design thinking and innovation, and sustainable and responsible management.
You’ll also develop strong communication and problem-solving skills; undertake applied business research and analyse data, learn how to question ideas and findings; and build the confidence to lead teams and manage organisational change.

Entry requirements for The University of Waikato

Candidates for the Degree must have

  • qualified for the award of a bachelors degree of the University of Waikato with at least a B- grade average across the 300 level papers, or for a qualification considered by the Academic Board to be equivalent, or
  • qualified for the award of the Diploma in Postgraduate Preparation – Pre-Masters of the University of Waikato, and
  • be accepted by the Pro Vice-Chancellor of the Division of Management, who will consult with the Director of the MBM Programme as appropriate, and
  • be subject to the completion of any qualifying papers or additional work as may be required by the Academic Board, either prior to admission or concurrently.

English Language Requirements

  • an Academic IELTS Overall score of at least 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in any band), or
  • a TOEFL iBT (Internet Based TOEFL) score of 90 with a Writing score of 21, or
  • a TOEFL iBT Home Edition overall score of 90 with a Writing score of 21, or
  • a B grade or better at Level 8 in the Certificate of Attainment in Academic English, or
  • a PTE Academic overall score of 56 with no band less than 46, or
  • a Language Cert International ESOL (LRWS) C1 Expert with an overall high pass and no less than a pass in each skill, or
  • a Trinity College London Integrated Skills in English (ISE) III with a pass in all four components, or
  • a B2 First (formally known as Cambridge English: First (FCE)) with an overall score of 176 and no bands below 169, or
  • a C2 Proficiency (formally known as Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)) with an overall score of 176 and no bands below 169, or
  • a Michigan English Test (formally known as Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB)) minimum score of 59.
